Hello friends! 

Welcome to my first ever blog post. If you know me you know that I hate writing?so this is really out of my comfort zone. 

 I’m super excited and nervous for this new journey that God has called me on! 

So why the World Race?

About four years ago, I had the opportunity to go to Greece and volunteer at a refugee camp. I loved it so much that I went back two more times. That is where I fell in love with mission work and knew that I was called to do more. Every time was an amazing experience and taught me a lot about serving and trusting in God! 

Ever since then I’ve wanted to go on a mission trip somewhere I have never been?but I didn't know where I wanted to go.  When I looked at the World Race I thought eleven months was too long of a commitment.  But I was never very satisfied with other mission trips that I would look up or hear about. Now I know God had this planned out for me all along and he has been teaching and preparing me for this moment.  

So now- about me! I’m Gwen Martin. I’m twenty-two years old and I come from a family of nine children. I am the youngest; some people may say that I am spoiled but I like to say I’m very blessed. I have twenty-two nieces and nephews.I love them all very much! I do have some favorites though.;) 

I was homeschooled. I have dyslexia which made doing school very hard for me. I never finished school, but started working instead.  I’m a hands on type of person. I can learn a lot more just from watching people than I can from just sitting inside and trying to read a book ;).  That's why I love working! I have two jobs right now. My favorite is being a waitress, as I have been for the past three or four years. I love it so much. I love getting to have conversations with people and seeing my favorite customer everyday! 

Other things I like:

• Swimming
• Chocolate
• Travel
• Any kind of outdoor activities
• Sleeping 

Things I don’t like:

• Getting up early
• Talking in front of big crowds
• Cooked vegetables
• Animals that are inside
