ATL. Ask the Lord month.
Wow-what a month of unexpected.
This month has been different than the other ones. We do not have a specific place that we are staying or an organization that we are helping. We prayed and ask the Lord where He wanted us to go, we thought we had a plan but it fell through, so we showed up in Nicaragua not really knowing what our plan was. The first week we found an organization that was going to the garbage dump and we got to help them by serving in ministry twice a week. People come every day to go through the trash to find recyclable things or clothes to resell to make money to provide for their families. The guy who started this dump ministry walks around and tells people to ‘Come! We are meeting and we want you to join our little church service.’ My teammates got to share their testimonies or encouraging word with the people. As I was sitting there in the crowd the first day, I was looking around at all the different people that we’re watching and really listening to what was being shared. I had the picture of that Bible story of Jesus sitting and all the people sitting around Him listening to Him. Like Jesus loves each of these people so much it doesn’t matter their stance, Jesus is with them and cares for them! It was very eye-opening and I’m grateful that we got to help with that.
Our Second week we went to an island. We heard there was a orphanage there. We tried to contact them but they never got back to us so we decided to just show up and see if they need any help. Trusting the Lord that He would have something for us there! On the ferry ride over, Jacob met a man that had a farm on the island that he wanted help with. So we said we would come Wednesday morning. On Wednesday we went to meet him at his farm but he was not home; God showed us who He had in store instead. We got to chat with a lady and pray for her and hear a little bit about her life, she had never left the island and she was in her 50s. It really made me grateful that I get this opportunity to travel. That entire day was full of unexpected things. Everything we thought we were going to do did not happen. But God took us to places that we needed to be at!
We had met some people that wanted us to come to the church that they were starting. They told us to be there at 3 so we showed up and discovered it was at someone’s house. The people that told us to come we’re not there yet, so we helped the lady set up the chairs and we were talking to her and her mother. Then their son came home, he was very drunk and was trying to talk to us and we didn’t really know what to do if we should leave or stay. Jose, my teammate said, “Let’s pray.” As we were praying, I saw the mother who was in a wheelchair crying cause she was scared for her son, so I went over to sit and pray with her! It was a very memorable memory because what felt like an unsafe situation turned into worship and prayer. God had us there at that time for a reason!!
We did get to go help out at the orphanage for two days, that was good! After the island, we went back to Granada for our last week. We helped with the Dump ministry and did Street evangelism!
So these pictures are a whole story. The first week we were here in Granada Nicaragua and I saw this lady, I had never really talked to her I think I said hey like once but one day she came up and gave me a big hug and every day I would see her and she would just come up and hug me. each time we would talk a little more. After we got back from a week on the island we stayed at the same place we had stayed the first week so when I walk up to the hostel I saw her sitting so I went and gave her a hug and asked how she was doing she seemed very sad and said she wasn’t doing to good, so me not knowing Spanish and her not knowing any English, we used the translator app on my phone. And she told me that her grandson was at the hospital and so I ask if I could pray for him so I did and went somewhere for like 3 hrs and when I come back she RAN up to me and was so happy that I had pray cause her grandson got to leave the hospital. To see the look on her face of how grateful she was that I prayed for him and he got to come home was so uplifting! A couple of days later she took me to her daughter’s house so I could pray for him again cause he needs surgery! Every day I go and talk and prayed with Her!! Lots of good stories about this month but that is all for now!
We are having team change this week so this was my last week with my team. It’s been good and challenging 4 months with them! I have learned so much from them!!<3
We had some last-minute changes this week. We will not be going to South America anymore cause of Covid things. So our route changed and we will be going to Eastern Europe. So on the 15th of next week, we will be flying to Albania! So yeah lots of changes new teams and a whole new continent!!
Just keep us in your prayers with all of this and for travel!!
Romans 5:3-5 “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Thanks for following along!!
Gwen, I’m so excited! I just now figured out how to find you. I’m a computer idiot so it’s taken me a while. I’ve read all your postings and saw a lot of good pictures. I didn’t know you knew how to play chess or ride a motorcycle. I’m so glad that you have a translation app on your phone; I can’t imagine trying to talk to people in different languages all over the world. And getting a chance to go to Albania is awesome! I imagine you’ve had some rough times along the way but I’m so excited for you! What an awesome experience meeting people from all over the world and growing in Christ in an exponential manner. You are so blessed -you have an experience that most people don’t ever have in their whole lives. We’ve (me and the church) have kept you covered in prayer. If there’s anything else you need please let us know. Love you little sister and keep up the good work. I’m so proud of you!
So glad to hear of your adventures , this will show you that things are not always cut in stone and how to go with the flow . I am glad you could help the lady with the boy in the hospital too. I hope you have some warm clothes for Eastern Europe LOL
Hugs to you and safe travels Jihn and I keep you in our thoughts
